Tesco shoppers in possession of a Clubcard issued £572 warning

Tesco shoppers are paying £14 more for a shop than Aldi customers, Which? has found. The cheapest UK supermarket for October has been named by the consumer group Which? and the winner was £30.73 cheaper than the most expensive.

Tesco Clubcard holders are paying £11 more per shop - which over 52 weeks of the year, could be £572. Waitrose was crowned the most expensive supermarket this month with a shop totalling £142.39 - a difference of £30.73 or 28% more compared to Aldi. The UK's largest supermarket took third place with a basket price of £122.26 on average with a Clubcard and £125.09 without one.

Asda was next with a price of £125.26, then Sainsbury's with a price of £125.93 with a Nectar Card, and then Morrisons with a price of £128.96 with a More card. For those shopping without a Morrisons More card the same basket would've cost you £130.05 in October and for Sainsbury's it stood at £130.79.

The cheapest ranking shows Aldi - £111.6 followed by Lidl with Lidl Plus - £112.07, Lidl - £112.33, Tesco (with Clubcard) - £122.26 and Tesco (without Clubcard) - £125.09. Asda - £125.26 and Sainsbury’s (with Nectar) - £125.93 completed the top ten with Morrisons with More - £128.96, Morrisons - £130.05 and Sainsbury’s (without Nectar) - £130.79.

Ocado - £135.47 and Waitrose - £142.39 brought up the rear. New Which? research has found millions of people can't access loyalty promotions because they're not eligible to join the member schemes of supermarkets and health and beauty retailers. This includes teenagers, homeless people and those without online access.

Food inflation slowed to 1.9% in October, down from 2.3% in September, according to the British Retail Consortium (BRC). Inflation slowed on meat, fish and tea products. Prices continued to rise faster for packaged food at 3.1%, while fresh food inflation fell to 1%.
