Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds' net worth as he makes big announcement
by Steve Wollaston, https://www.facebook.com/stevewollastonjournalist/, Liam Randall · Birmingham LiveHollywood star Ryan Reynolds has added to his growing business portfolio by purchasing a majority stake in Wrexham Lager brewery. The investment, made alongside Wrexham AFC co-owner Rob McElhenney and the club's minority backers, the Allyn family from New York, is just one of many astute business decisions made by the actor in recent years.
The historic brewery company is already reaping the rewards of the partnership, with plans underway to find a larger city centre base to cater for international demand for its beer. The move serves as a reminder of Reynolds' financial prowess, with his wealth not solely derived from his successful acting career.
His net worth is now estimated to be around $350 million (£281 million), with his various side ventures contributing significantly to this figure. Reynolds, who first made a name for himself in Hollywood in the 1990s and is best known for his role in the Deadpool franchise, reportedly earns just under £15.4m per film.
His business interests include a stake in Portland-based brand Aviation Gin, which he acquired in 2018 and sold to alcoholic beverage maker Diageo in 2020 for up to £460m, earning him an estimated £96m. He also previously owned a 25% stake in Mint Mobile, which was sold to T-Mobile in 2023 for over £1bn, with his share of the deal estimated by the Wall Street Journal to be around £250m in cash and stock.
Reynolds, who co-founded Maximum Effort, a company involved in producing and advertising several of his projects including Deadpool and the Welcome to Wrexham docuseries, bought Wrexham jointly with Always Sunny in Philadelphia star McElhenney for a nominal fee. The deal was completed in February 2021, with an immediate injection of £2m into the club, reports Wales Online.
Despite reporting losses under their ownership and currently owing the pair around £9m in loans, the North Wales team has enjoyed great success on the pitch, achieving back-to-back promotions to League One under manager Phil Parkinson. The TV series documenting their takeover has attracted global attention and big-money sponsorships from United Airlines and Metaquest.
The club's turnover increased to £10.478m in the year ending June 30, 2023. Reynolds also has stakes in password management company 1Password, financial management firm WealthSimple, and Canadian fintech outfit Nuvei Corporation.
In June 2023, he broadened his sporting interests by joining an investment group that bought a 24% share of the Alpine Formula 1 team. Reynolds, along with his wife Blake Lively, owns several properties including a £4.3m family home in the Pound Ridge area of New York and a luxury apartment in Tribeca.
His shrewd business moves have made investing in Wrexham Lager and the city's football club possible. As well as his wealth, both are gaining from the global exposure he brings.
