The popular food app has today launched Too Good To Go Food Parcels in addition to their "surprise bags". Too Good To Go is an app which allows supermarkets, stores, cafes and restaurants to sell food that is close to its sell-by or use-by dates and would otherwise have gone to waste for reduced prices. The bags are called surprise bags as you don't know what you are getting when you order.
The company calls itself "the world's largest marketplace for surplus food” and the goal of the scheme is to reduce food wastage.
The company says the new Food Parcels will come from larger-scale manufacturers and will include products that are "perfectly good" but won't go to supermarkets due to minor issues like damaged labels or packaging changes. Products included in the parcels will include ambient items such as coffee, tea, snacks, soups, sauces, pasta, and confectionery.
Too Good To Go says the parcels will also include beloved brands including Tony’s Chocolonely, Kraft Heinz, Minor Figures, and Skinny Food Co. Other brands potentially joining the scheme "soon" include Unilever, Danone, Coca-Cola, Ferrero and Mondelēz. You can choose from different types of parcels, including mono-brand Parcels - which is a variety of items from one brand - and themed Parcels, which could include options such as a spices kit, a pet food parcel or a protein bars parcel.
Sophie Trueman, Country Director at Too Good To Go UK and Ireland, said: “We’re so excited to launch Parcels, our newest way to make saving food both easy and fun. We're all about finding innovative, exciting ways to help our communities save perfectly good food across the world.
"With Too Good To Go Parcels now launching in the UK, we're offering another way for Britons to save food from going to waste. Perfectly good food from some of the UK’s favourite brands that would otherwise have gone to waste can now be delivered straight to your doors. Let's keep making a difference, one Parcel at a time."
