by Ruby Flanagan · The MirrorPoundland will be slashing prices of hundreds of everyday items in all of its UK stores from tomorrow.
The high street discount chain announced that starting November 1, it would increase the number of items that are £1 or below in its stores from 1,000 to 1,500. Items that will see price cuts include two litre bottles of milk, 800g Kingsmill or Brace’s bread, six packs of eggs, and 1kg of Whitworth sugar.
Alongside this, fresh produce stands will be introduced into over 520 of its branches. These stands will have items such as oranges and apples which again will be priced at just £1. Poundland says from today, a third of its typical core range - which consists of around 5,000 items - is £1 or less.
Poundland commercial director CJ Antal-Smith who recently took up her role at Poundland said: “Most retailers look to re-focus customers on high price, big profit items at Christmas as customers splash the cash. While we have everything you need at Poundland for an amazing Christmas we’re not going to forget the importance of every day essentials that are the bedrock of every home’s cupboard and fridge. Amazing value milk, bread eggs and sugar will be every bit as important to customers this Christmas as they look to keep within their budgets.”
Poundland has also this week launched "12 deals of Christmas", covering different must-have Christmas essentials such as LED lights, gift bags, wrapping paper, biscuits and more. The offers will cover both grocery and general merchandise and will change each Wednesday between now and Christmas.
This week’s deals include McVities 730g Tasties biscuits sold at £2 down from £3.50, a pack of 40 LED lights at 75p rather than £1.50, and an eight LED mini light chain sparkle at 75p instead of its usual price of £1.25. Poundland says the price cuts come as it works to be the "home of the pound" on the British high street.
This month the retailer also launched a trial of its loyalty scheme nationwide for the first time. Poundland Perks allows shoppers to collect one point for every 1p they spend on select products - then once they've built up 5,000 points, they can redeem a digital voucher worth £1 to spend in-store or online.
The loyalty app will also offer customers discounts on "at least" 100 products. In addition, shoppers will be able to win points and prizes through its "Spin to Winsday" game, which takes place on Wednesdays. Some of the prizes include TVs, soundbars, free online delivery, and up to 1,000 points. Between now and Christmas, Poundland will also offer "power-up" perks to give customers 100 points for every pound they spend across all its products.
