Newcastle flights to new Christmas market destinations launch for winter

The Jet2CityBreaks options from Newcastle International Airport will now include festive trips to Sweden and Slovakia

The historic attractions of Slovakia's capital Bratislava and Sweden's coastal city of Malmo can be explored this Christmas following the news that Jet2 is making more festive trips available from Newcastle Airport.

This Thursday's announcement by Jet2CityBreaks of two new Christmas Market destinations available from Newcastle Airport comes in response, it says, to demand from travellers keen to book a festive getaway and, to spread some early seasonal cheer, these additions to its holiday options are already available to book. The addition of Bratislava and Malmo trips for winter 24-25 expands the number of its Christmas market destinations on sale from Newcastle Airport to nine, with others being Berlin, Budapest, Cologne, Copenhagen, Vienna, Krakow and Prague, so customers have lots of choice.

The Bratislava breaks are available from November 21 until December 22 and will involve a flight to Vienna Airport - with the twice-weekly services on Thursday and Sunday - then a 'quick hop' from there over the border, says Jet2, where there will be a choice of four-star hotel options in the heart of the city. Along with the bright lights of the hub, the attractions of the 'hidden gem' city, which is nestled along the Danube River and bordered by Austria and Hungary, include its scenic landscapes, traditional cuisine and wealth of culture and history, such as museums, castles, and theatres, as well as the added appeal of those Christmas-time markets.

The seasonal attractions of Malmo, meanwhile, can be enjoyed this winter on breaks available from November 29 until December 23 which are also available to book now. These will involve a flight first to Copenhagen Airport then a direct train over the Oresund Bridge that links Denmark and Sweden.

The flights from Newcastle to Copenhagen will run twice a week, on a Monday and Friday, and again there will be a pick of hotels in Malmo. The city's Christmas period is set to see it sparkle with lights and draped in traditional decorations and its wooden market stalls will be selling local treats such as glogg and saffron buns.

Ice-skating and horse-drawn carriage rides will be options too. Steve Heapy, chief executive officer of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “Christmas market breaks are continuing to grow in popularity, so we are delighted to announce the launch of two new festive destinations.

"Bratislava and Malmo are fantastic festive destinations and we are expecting these new holidays to be popular with both customers and independent travel agents." He said the company always listens to customers' feedback and added that they now will be "spoiled for choice when it comes to experiencing a European Christmas market this winter".

Leon McQuaid, director of aviation development at the city airport, is "delighted" at the new investment and said that "these festive markets offer a truly magical experience for everyone".

In more seasonal news this week, which no doubt will appeal to those looking for other festive break opportunities, a new Christmas market mystery holiday deal was launched by Wowcher with flights and a hotel stay included for just £99. Its deal, on offer until October 29 involves a possible 100 destinations, including Paris, Lapland, Switzerland and even New York, to visit over the winter season.
