Martin Lewis warns Tesco shoppers could lose £18m in Clubcard savings

by · Mail Online

Martin Lewis has issued an urgent warning to shoppers who have unused points on their Tesco Clubcards.

According to a post on Lewis' popular Money Saving Expert website, a staggering £18 million worth of Clubcard vouchers are due to expire at the end of November

This means those who shop at the supermarket have just three weeks left to use their Clubcard points - or risk losing them entirely.

Tesco Clubcard vouchers only remain valid for two years from the date of their issue - and cannot be used or reissued after this date.

But thankfully the British money saving expert, 52, has revealed how Tesco customers can double the value of points as well as a 'trick to extend their validity'.

Every £1 spent at the British supermarket equals one point on your Clubcard when you scan it or use the app at checkout.

Meanwhile, drivers can earn one point for every two litres of fuel they pump at a Tesco petrol station.

Martin Lewis issues student loan warning - how to check if YOU are overpaying

To check how many Clubcard points you have earned - and when they are due to expire - log in to the Tesco Clubcard website and click on 'Clubcard account' and then 'Vouchers'.

The same information is also available on the Tesco app.

One Clubcard point is the equivalent of 1p and you need at least 150 points - equal to £1.50 worth of savings - before you can request a Clubcard voucher.

The Money Saving Expert website advises: 'Once you've found your vouchers, you can spend them online at Tesco using the code provided – or if you plan to spend them in store, you can print your vouchers or scan the barcode available in the app at the checkout.'

It also states that you can 'double the value of your vouchers' by spending them at Tesco's Rewards Partners instead such as Disney+, Legoland and Pizza Express.

Around £18million worth of Clubcard vouchers will expire at the end of November

For example, 500 points are worth £5 in-store but if you exchange these vouchers for codes to use with a Rewards Partner, 500 points are suddenly worth £10.

You also have the option of swapping vouchers to claim money off your Tesco mobile bill.

To those stressing over their Clubcard points expiring by the end of this month - do not fret!

Thankfully, the Money Saving Expert has a handy 'trick to extend their validity'.

The website reads: 'If your Clubcard vouchers are due to expire and you don't want to use them yet, you may be able to extend the expiry date by another two years.

'Make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards page (not in store or on other Tesco pages) or donate to one of its partner charities.'

Try to shell out as little as possible, perhaps by redeeming a 50p restaurant voucher which would be worth £1 at your chosen restaurant.

To check how many Clubcard points you have racked up - and when they are due to expire - log in to the Tesco Clubcard website and click on 'Clubcard account' and then 'Vouchers'. You can access the same information via the Tesco app

The Money Saving Website continues: 'The remaining balance is credited back to your Clubcard account as points.

'So if you spend 50p using a £5 Clubcard voucher, you'll get 450 points back (worth £4.50).

'You can then swap your points for vouchers manually or wait for them to be converted with your next statement.'

The new expiry date for these vouchers will be two years later - so you will have until 2026 to use them.

But you need to work fast if you want to try this hack; the Clubcard vouchers will expire for good by 11.59pm on November 30.
