Top figures in the Palestinian militant group have long been targeted by Israel.

Earlier today, the IDF said it was “checking the possibility” that Sinwar was one of three people killed in an operation in Gaza.

Sinwar assumed overall command of the Iran-backed Hamas in August, following the assassination of former political chief Ismail Haniyeh.
