Morrisons worker held at knifepoint in Tamworth robbery

Officers rushed to the store following reports the masked robber had entered with a 'large knife'

Police have issued CCTV images of a man officers would like to trace after a robber held a Morrisons worker at knifepoint in Tamworth. The armed robbery happened at the supermarket's 'Daily' store in Wilnecote at around 3.50pm on Sunday, September 8.

Officers rushed to the store following reports the masked robber had entered with a 'large knife'. Police said he threatened a female cashier, aged in her 60s, and made off with a quantity of cash.

The worker was left shaken but she was not harmed in the incident. Police said the robber fled on foot towards Main Street and Pennine Way.

He was described as white and around six foot in height. Police said he was wearing a green face mask, black hooded sweatshirt, black jogging bottoms, trainers and gloves.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "We're appealing for information after a shop worker was threatened with a knife in a robbery in Tamworth. We were called at 3.50pm on September 8 to the Morrisons Daily store in Wilnecote, following reports of a man entering with a large knife.

"The suspect approached a cashier and demanded the till be opened, before making off with a quantity of cash. The cashier, a woman in her 60s, was left shaken but unhurt in the incident.

"The suspect ran from the scene on foot in the direction of Main Street and Pennine Way. He is described as white, around six foot, wearing a green face mask, black hooded sweatshirt, black jogging bottoms, trainers and gloves.

"Our inquiries are ongoing and we're currently reviewing CCTV footage of the area at the time. We have released an image of a man who we would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

"We know the image is not the best quality, but we hope someone may recognise him and his distinctive gloves. We would like to speak to anyone who saw a man matching our description, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage of Main Street and Pennine Way at the time of the offence."
