Solar storms may cause faint auroras across fringes of the northern United States this weekend.

Solar storms may cause faint northern lights across fringes of the northern United States over the weekend as forecasters monitor for possible disruptions to power and communications.

This event will coincide with an earlier coronal mass ejection (CME) anticipated to arrive between October 4 and 5, heightening the likelihood of geomagnetic storms and auroras this weekend.

The lights may be visible in states including New York, Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin, Montana and New Hampshire.

The Northern Lights may be seen in the U.S. this Friday and Sunday nights after major solar activity on Thursday, including the largest solar flare of this solar cycle.
