People on Universal Credit to get £84 extra paid into bank accounts

by · Birmingham Live

Benefit claimants have been told the amount they receive in payments will increase from April. Benefits payments usually increase every year and now the numbers for 2025 have been revealed.

Claimants can expect a little bit more next year when the rates change. People over 25 who are on Universal Credit will get an extra £84 a year.

The new rates have been calculated following the release of the latest inflation figures. It means benefits are set to rise by 1.7% next spring. The monthly rate will increase from £393 to £400.

Universal Credit

Monthly standard allowance

  • Single under 25 - £316.68, up from £311.68
  • Single and 25 or over - £400.14, up from £393.45
  • If you live with a partner, both under 25 - £497.55, up from £489.23
  • If you live with a partner, either over 25 - £628.10, up from £617.60

The pay rise will provide a small boost for millions of benefit claimants who have been struggling with the cost of living over the last few years. The state pension, meanwhile, will rise by a higher amount.

This is because the pension rate is tied to a triple lock guarantee. This ensures it increases every year in line with whatever is highest out of wage growth, inflation or 2.5%.

Wages are highest out of these metrics at 4.1%. That means the full new state pension is set to increase from £221 a week to £230, and the basic state pension from £169 to £176.
