Aldi has confirmed it will close its doors on Boxing Day this year. The budget supermarket giant will shut down all stores on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

However, it confirmed that stores across the country will reopen on Friday, December 27. They say that will mean "customers can pick up all the essentials for their New Year celebrations."

Meanwhile, store times may vary depending on where you are in the country in the run-up to Christmas. Some stores are expected to extend their hours so customers have enough time to get all their essential festive shopping done.

Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK, said: “Christmas is such a special period for many of our colleagues, and by keeping our stores closed on Boxing Day, Aldi gives them more time to spend with their loved ones. Customers will have plenty to look forward to in the run-up to Christmas, with exciting Christmas ranges hitting shelves in time for the festive season.”

Aldi is the latest store to confirm its Boxing Day plans after a number of other stores confirmed they would also close their doors on the holiday. Stores such as John Lewis and Waitrose will shut down on December 26.

However, Waitrose confirmed that some stores attached to petrol stations will specially be open on Boxing Day. In John Lewis' case, it will keep a couple of stores open at both the Trafford and Stratford shopping centres.

It is not uncommon for stores to close down on Boxing Day or stay open for less hours than usual. Other supermarkets that have done the same in the past include Asda, Tesco, and Morrisons.
