A pay claim for RTÉ staff of a flat rate increase of €1,500 plus 6%, has been lodged by the TUG (Trade Union Group).

They confirmed the lodgement of the claim with a view to having it in place at the end of November.

The TUG said that "having consulted affiliate unions and taking in account the guidance of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, we feel this is a fair and reflective claim in the current climate."

The union statement added that "we are conscious of the particular pressures on lower paid workers, with the flat rate element providing a greater increase to them."

The statement then confirmed that "Management is currently considering our claim and will revert back later in the month for further discussions. "

The group added that "Any final pay offer from management will be put to a ballot of members."

At the Townhall on Tuesday with staff, the DG Kevin Bakhurst referenced a pending pay claim saying: "we are going go into negotiations on the next pay deal with the unions. I think that process kicks off quite soon so we'll look at that."

Mr Bakhurst added that "we need to look at that within the affordability for the organisation and fair pay."

The last pay claim agreement was in November 2022, when RTÉ staff received a 6% pay increase, over a two year period, with a 3% increase in January 2023, backdated to December 2022, a 1.5% increase in October, and a further 1.5% on 30 April 2024.
