Vegetable Prices to Triple in November & December Due to Monsoon Season
by Azri Azizan · WORLD OF BUZZThe prices of vegetables will triple this November and December due to the North East Monsoon season, predicted to bring heavy rain and floods to some areas.
Cameron Highlands Malay Gardeners Association Chairman Datuk Syed Abd Rahman Syed Abd Rashid said the price of vegetables has increased by 20 to 50% in the last week alone.
“The price of tomatoes has now jumped from RM1.50 to RM2.30 per kilogram followed by several other vegetables such as leeks, kailan, mustard, pak choy.”
Syed Abd Rahman also said the price of leafy vegetables will continue to rise due to the rainy season and floods in certain areas, affecting crop yields, not to mention the fungal diseases that will affect vegetable production.
The situation is expected to end at the end of this year.
In a report by Berita Harian, Syed said the use of pesticides will increase because it is the only way to reduce the risk of crop damage, which is becoming increasingly common.
