The cheapest UK supermarket for October has been named by the consumer group Which? and the winner was £30.73 cheaper than the most expensive.

Once again Aldi has taken the crown for the UK's cheapest supermarket this month with a basket price of 62 items costing you only £111.66 on average. Fellow discounter Lidl took second place with its basket price sitting 41p more at ££112.07 on average with its loyalty scheme Lidl Plus. Without the scheme, the basket would've cost you 67p more at £112.33 on average.

Waitrose was crowned the most expensive supermarket this month with a shop totalling £142.39 - a difference of £30.73 or 28% more compared to Aldi. The UK's largest supermarket took third place with a basket price of £122.26 on average with a Clubcard and £125.09 without one.

Asda was next with a price of £125.26, then Sainsbury's with a price of £125.93 with a Nectar Card, and then Morrisons with a price of £128.96 with a More card. For those shopping without a Morrisons More card the same basket would've cost you £130.05 in October and for Sainsbury's it stood at £130.79. Ocado was placed in second to last this month with an average basket price of £135.47.

Which? said for a bigger shop consisting of a list of 164 items, Asda was the cheapest at £418.71 and Waitrose was the most expensive, costing £42.39 more at £461.10. However Aldi and Lidl are not included in that comparison as they have a smaller range of products compared to the other supermarkets.

Harry Rose, Editor of Which? magazine, said: "Our latest monthly analysis once again sees Aldi crowned as the UK’s cheapest supermarket. In the lead up to the festive season, people are looking to cut costs where they can. Our analysis shows that by switching supermarkets consumers could save 22%, highlighting the advantages of shopping around where possible."
