Google and Adani Group have teamed up in a clean energy partnership that aims to boost both companies' sustainability goals while adding more renewable energy to India's power grid.

The announcement was made by Google at the ‘Google for India’ event, with Adani providing additional details through a release.

Under this partnership, Adani will supply clean energy to power Google’s cloud operations in India.

The renewable energy will come from a new solar-wind hybrid project located at Khavda, Gujarat, which is home to the world’s largest renewable energy facility. This project is expected to start commercial operations in the third quarter of 2025.

In the statement, the Adani Group highlighted the significance of this collaboration in helping Google achieve its 24/7 carbon-free energy goal. Google has been aiming to ensure that its cloud services and operations are powered entirely by clean energy by 2030.

“Through this partnership, Adani will supply clean energy from a new solar-wind hybrid project located in the world’s largest renewable energy plant at Khavda, Gujarat. This new project is expected to start commercial operations in the third quarter of 2025,” the Adani Group stated.

The project will deliver a significant boost to Google’s sustainability plans, allowing it to power its Indian operations more efficiently while contributing to the growth of clean energy in the region.

Google already powers most of its cloud operations with electricity from the grid and has committed to running them entirely through renewable energy sources by 2030. This partnership will help meet that ambitious goal in India.

"With proven capabilities in delivering large-scale wind, solar, hybrid, and energy storage projects, Adani is well-positioned to provide customised renewable energy solutions to commercial and industrial (C&I) customers to meet their energy requirements and reduce their carbon footprint," the release mentioned.

The partnership is expected to have a wider impact on India’s clean energy landscape as well.
