A motorist has issued a stark warning about a certain button in cars, labelling it "dangerous" and urging drivers to avoid using it.

The car expert, known as @carknowledge_ on TikTok, frequently shares valuable advice on vehicle maintenance and little-known features that could enhance your driving experience.

However, his latest campaign is to educate drivers about a specific button that he claims "99% of drivers ignore this dangerous button in the car", detailing which one it is and the reasons for giving it a wide berth. He explained: "The button I'm talking about is this 'off' which is the vehicle body stabilisation system, also known as the vehicle anti-skid system," highlighting the button that should not be pressed.

He emphasised that this feature is "enabled by default" and warned motorists that they "must not touch it", explaining that if you do press it, "once pressed, the anti-skid system will automatically turn off". He added a word of caution that deactivating it during sharp turns or sudden acceleration could cause "the vehicle is likely to slip", and in severe cases, might even lead to the car "roll".

Vehicle experts at KBB concur that while it's possible to disable traction control, it's seldom necessary. They suggest: "You can turn off the safety feature, though it's rare you'll need to. But traction control must remain activated in driving instances like heavy rain, snow, or icy conditions.", reports the Mirror.

They also warned: "Traction control can be the difference between staying on the road and crashing your car due to skidding, including when the roads are wet or icy."

Simultaneously, they recommend keeping it activated "most of the time", even when conditions "seem safe", as a safety net for drivers' peace of mind.
