Google resumes Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2 Wear OS 5 updates
by Alap Naik Desai · Android HeadlinesGoogle has resumed Wear OS 5 updates for the Pixel Watch. The company had pulled the update for the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 in September. Google seems to have addressed the bugs causing problems while booting.
Google halted updates for the Pixel Watch in September
Google is usually quick to send out updates for its Pixel devices. These include the Pixel smartphones and the Pixel Watch smartwatches.
Google started rolling out the Wear OS 5 update to the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 in September. However, the company had to halt the new update as reports about the update soft-bricking these premium smartwatches started emerging.
Google was quick to acknowledge the issue with the new Wear OS version and confirmed it was fixing the update. Specifically speaking, some Pixel Watch devices were “soft-bricking” after installing the update.
It was fairly easy to fix the affected Pixel Watch and get it working on an older version of the Wear OS. Fixing a Pixel Watch that has experienced a soft brick involves resetting the device from “Fastboot” mode and restoring data. Needless to say, this isn’t as convenient as tapping on the display a few times.
Wear OS 5 update resumes for all Pixel Watch models
Google didn’t confirm when it would roll out the Wear OS 5 update after fixing the issue causing problems for the Pixel Watch. However, the company appears to have quietly released the update.
According to 9to5Google, Verizon uploaded the November 2024 Pixel Watch updates, referred to as AW2A.241105.012. The changelog for the Pixel Watch 3 Wear OS 5 update mentions November 12 as the release date.
It is important to note that there’s no October update for the Pixel Watch. Interestingly, Google has admitted the update fixes booting issues by stating it includes a fix for how “The watch face wouldn’t load on reboot.”
