Homes that feel like they are constantly battling bad broadband may soon get a vital boost via Virgin Media. The UK telecoms giant announced earlier this year that it was switching on a new “smart support” platform which monitors internet connection 24 hours a day to make sure users are getting the very best service.

At launch, Virgin offered its free smart support service to around 200,000 users but that number is steadily growing with the company hoping to add another 150,000 before the end of the year.

Those that are offered the upgrade will instantly get access to benefits such as always-on monitoring, automatic problem solving and tailored advice to help fix connectivity issues. Virgin also promises easy-to-book expert help and regular check-ins to make sure things are running smoothly.

Virgin says that later this year, its smart support service will become more sophisticated so it can accurately diagnose a wider range of in-home connectivity issues. That should mean better speeds and less outages or annoying dropouts.

Speaking about the update, Director of Connectivity at Virgin Media O2, Gareth Lister, says: “We’re committed to giving our customers the very best broadband experience, that’s why we’ve invested in accelerating the roll out of smart support so even more homes can benefit from the service at no extra cost each month.

“Smart support is a unique benefit that no other major network offers. This game-changing technology will give our customers extra peace of mind, without them having to lift a finger.”

Hopefully, this update from Virgin Media will go some way to boosting its customer complaints rating which, according to Ofcom, is some of the lowest in the industry.

Figures released in July showed Virgin was the second most complained about broadband firm with a score of 18 per 100,000. The least complained about was Sky with just 6 per 100,000.
