‘Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’ Will Land On GeForce Now
by Barry Collins · ForbesMicrosoft Flight Simulator 2024 will be available on Nvidia’s GeForce Now streaming service from day one of its launch on November 19.
The highly anticipated update to the Flight Sim series will push even high-end gaming PCs hard, with its super-realistic graphics and revamped physics engine, which makes water look much more lifelike among many other changes.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 PC Requirements
The recommended PC spec for the game is punchy, with Microsoft recommending an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X or Intel Core i7-10700K or better processor, and a Radeon RX 5700 XT or GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card. However, the “ideal spec” sees the GPU demands upgraded to an RX 7900 or GeForce RTX 4080 with a hefty 64GB of RAM.
Those demanding specs might force some gamers to turn to the cloud service instead, with Nvidia promising support for DLSS 3 with Frame Generation and Super Resolution, DLAA, ray-traced shadows, and NVIDIA Reflex with Flight Simulator 2024.
Support for those advanced graphics technologies is only available on the Ultimate tier of GeForce Now, which uses the GeForce RTX 4080 graphics chips stipulated in Microsoft’s “ideal” spec. That tier allows gamers to play in 4K HDR at up to 240 frames per second, although it’s not guaranteed that highly intensive titles such as Flight Simulator 2024 will hit those maximum frame rates.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 sees a huge number of graphical improvements over the 2020 release, including improved ground detail and textures, animal herds, live shipping traffic, and the simulated world moving through all the colors of the seasons. There’s also support for tornados, storms and the Aurora Borealis (or Northern Lights) among other atmospheric features.

GeForce Now Time Limit
The arrival of Flight Simulator 2024 and other upcoming titles may take some of the heat off Nvidia’s cloud gaming service, after it announced last week that it would be imposing a monthly time limit on even members of the Ultimate tier.
“At the start of next year, GeForce Now will roll out a 100-hour monthly playtime allowance to continue providing exceptional quality and speed — as well as shorter queue times — for Performance and Ultimate members,” the company announced. “This ample limit comfortably accommodates 94% of members, who typically enjoy the service well within this timeframe.”
The service will allow members to roll over up to 15 hours of unused game time to the following month, and extra time on either tier can be purchased at an additional cost.
The announcement was met with a furious reaction from many users on Reddit, where it was first announced, and on social media. “Terrible idea to bring in a monthly play limit,” said one commenter on the Reddit announcement.
“Even though I'm a founder and with my game time I wouldn't hit the 100-hours limit each month myself but generally the trust in Nvidia is gone. What else will they change down the line? Very disappointing.”
Another commented that “the clock is ticking for me to either get a console or build a PC. I don't hit the limit but I don't like having limits on leisure.”
