Nokia wins patent dispute agains Amazon in Germany

Nokia has won a significant legal victory against Amazon in a patent dispute, as a German court ruled that Amazon is using Nokia’s patented video technologies without a license. The Munich Regional Court determined that Amazon must cease selling its Fire Stick streaming devices in Germany, which have been found to infringe on Nokia’s patent related to video technology. This ruling is part of a broader series of legal actions Nokia has initiated against Amazon, focusing on the unauthorized use of its technologies in various services and devices, including Amazon Prime Video.

The court also rejected Amazon’s defense based on FRAND (Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory) licensing terms, ordering Amazon to pay damages and disclose revenue related to the infringing products. Although Amazon can appeal this decision, it will need to enforce the judgment for it to take effect. Nokia’s Chief Licensing Officer expressed hope that Amazon would comply and negotiate a fair licensing agreement.

Nokia is really successful in this and so far Germany seems to be its court of preference, and judging on some previous wins, I think I know why :).
