Nokia TA-1420 (2780 Flip) gets rebranded to HMD TA-1420

HMD continues its rebranding of existing Nokia models, with the latest focus on a flip phone bearing the model number TA-1420, also known as the Nokia 2780 Flip. HMD has recently used this model (or its variations) for promotional partnerships with Heineken (cool looking device) and Mattel, and it’s likely HMD will continue leveraging it for future collaborations—or perhaps release it as a standalone flip feature phone.

FCC documents reveal key details about the device, including photos, test results, and a declaration of changes. While the phone remains largely unchanged, a few modifications have been made. HMD upgraded the OS from KaiOS 3.0 to KaiOS 3.1, refreshed the wallpapers and UI, added a lanyard hole, and removed both Bluetooth and the Nokia logo from the battery and charging screen. Now, the battery features an HMD logo in pink, which also appears on the screen when the phone is charging.

Interestingly, while the Barbie phone has pink accents, it corresponds to model TA-1681. This raises the possibility that the TA-1420 could either be the U.S. version of the Barbie phone or a new HMD flip phone altogether.
