Mahindra BE 6e, XEV 9e electric SUVs to debut on November 26
The BE 6e will be the BE brand's maiden product, while the XEV 9e will be the XEV brand's first model.
by India Today Auto Desk · India TodayMahindra & Mahindra has announced that it will debut two electric brands, BE and XEV, on November 26, 2024. While the BE 6e will be the BE brand's maiden product, the XEV 9e will be the XEV brand's first model.
According to Mahindra, the BE 6e and the XEV 9e will be the flagship products of their respective brands. The BE and XEV brands are based on the electric-origin INGLO architecture.
Mahindra's INGLO platform will use electric components from Volkswagen's modular electric drive matrix (MEB) and unified cells.
Earlier this year, the Indian SUV major and the German auto giant signed a supply agreement on components of MEB for INGLO. Under the deal, certain electric components as well as unified cells will be provided.
Mahindra is the first external partner to use Volkswagen's unified cell concept, which forms the core of the latter's battery strategy. The supply agreement will run over several years and will have a total volume of about 50 GWh.
The Indian automaker plans to launch five electric SUVs, including the BE 6e and the XEV 9e, based on the INGLO platform.
The MEB platform and its components are used by Volkswagen Group brands like Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and Seat/Cupra as well as external partners like Ford and Mahindra.
The partnership with Mahindra is led by Volkswagen Group Technology and its 'Platform Business' unit in cooperation with Skoda Auto Volkswagen India.
At present, Mahindra offers the XUV400 electric SUV. Additionally, the company sells some of the most popular internal combustion engine (ICE) SUVs in India, like the Bolero, Thar, Thar Roxx, Scorpio-N, Scorpio Classic, XUV 3XO and XUV700.
The company recorded its highest-ever domestic monthly SUV wholesales of 54,504 units in October 2024. This was also the best-ever monthly SUV volume clocked by any carmaker in India.
