Google Meet has released a major update that will simplify virtual meetings by allowing automatic transcription and recording of sessions. The new feature aims to ensure that users don't miss an important detail from their meetings, even if they forget to manually record or take notes. This update is expected to be rolled out to Google Workspace users in the coming days, though administrators may need to enable it first.

The update introduces three significant settings. The first allows for automatic transcription of all meetings, providing users with a written record of everything discussed. The second option automatically records meetings by default, ensuring both visual and audio content is archived. However, participants or hosts can still opt-out during the session if they prefer not to record or transcribe.

For users with Workspace accounts equipped with the Gemini AI add-on, there's an additional feature. Meet’s Gemini note-taking capabilities can now automatically summarise meetings, capturing key points for easy reference. This offers a quick way for teams to review important discussions without sifting through lengthy transcripts or recordings.

This update comes as a boon for professionals who rely on video conferencing for work and are prone to forgetting to record important discussions. It also addresses privacy concerns by giving participants the option to disable recording or transcription when needed.

Besides, Google recently added a new feature for Meet users, which is very useful. The company made it easier to switch devices while you are in a call. The new feature is called, "Switch Here."

Announcing the feature in a blog post, Google wrote, "In today's world, getting our work done can happen from many locations, across many devices. Beginning today, you can smoothly transfer between devices while on a Google Meet call without hanging up and rejoining.
