Enable the still capture button while recording video in your iPad’s Camera app with this jailbreak tweak

A feature that I use all the time when recording videos on my iPhone is the still capture button. This button allows you to capture a still frame as a photograph file even as you continue recording a video, and it doesn’t interrupt the video recording process in any way.

Unfortunately, this feature is mainly intended for iPhones, which leaves a lot of iPad users in the dust. Although most iPad users aren’t using their tablets to record video and capture photographs, those who do would appreciate having the option over not having it at all, which is why a free jailbreak tweak called Still Capture Enabler (iPadOS 15+) by iOS developer PoomSmart might be of interest.

Once installed, Still Capture Enabler (iPadOS 15+) enables the still capture button in the iPad’s Camera app while recording video, bringing the same functionality that iPhone owners have enjoyed for eons over to the iPad for a similar capability. The still capture button appears just over the ordinary record button while recording a video, as depicted above in the iPhone screenshot example.

The still capture button is especially useful when something flies into your video frame for a brief moment, where you would have wished you had a camera ready to capture the moment as a photograph. With this button, you can have your cake and eat it too. Video recording continues as usual, while that moment you selected gets saved as an individual image file in your Photo Library.

This gives the same effect as opening the video on your computer and capturing a screenshot of a particular frame in that video as opposed to using the Photo feature in the Camera app, but it’s still a lot better than nothing.

Those wanting to enable this functionality on their jailbroken iPad running iPadOS 15 or later can download Still Capture Enabler (iPadOS 15+) from PoomSmart’s personal repository via their favorite package manager app. The tweak works with rootless jailbreaks like Dopamine and palera1n.
