If you're in the market for affordable wireless Bluetooth headphones, Sony might not be the first brand that springs to mind. Mirror reporter Nisha Mal stumbled upon the Sony WH-CH520 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones, and they've turned out to be one of her best buys of 2023.

She shared: "I was looking for a pair of headphones that were easy to set up and didn't break the bank. The headphones come in four colours - blue, tan, white and blue and cost £34.99 from Amazon.

"Originally, I wanted the tan colour, but at the time, they were sold out, so I settled for the blue hue. The headphones fit over your head and have pads around the speakers for comfortable wear. They have a 50-hour battery life, which is perfect for me as I use them every single day. I can have them on for up to eight hours a day, I use them for everything from listening to music and podcasts to call-making - I can even connect them to my laptop for meetings too."

The headphones have an 'Active Noise Cancellation' feature, which is handy if you're working from home and there's a lot of background noise. For Nisha, the lengthy battery life is one of the device's standout features.

They only require charging every three or four days and take roughly an hour to reach full battery life. If you're pressed for time, a quick 3-minute charge can provide you with 1.5 hours of listening time. The headphones are incredibly easy to set up. All you need to do is press and hold the start button on the side of the headphones and connect them to your devices via Bluetooth, whether it's a phone, tablet or laptop.

Nisha has yet to connect them to a TV, but for gamers, this is an option. Regarding sound quality, these headphones feature a 'Digital Sound Enhancement Engine' that restores high-frequency music. There's also a gradual fade-out feature, so songs don't abruptly stop before the next one begins.

If you download the accompanying Sound Connect app on your phone, you can tailor the sound in the Equalizer setting. The app has five buttons that allow you to hear the difference in sound - each one generally changes the bass. The app also tracks what you've been listening to and your daily usage.

On the right side of the headphones, there are three buttons: an on/off switch and two volume buttons. These buttons allow you to answer your phone through the headphones. According to the product description, you can use voice control to control these features.

Nisha said one downside is their size: "They're quite big and bulky, and they don't fit in any of my bags, making them not very travel-friendly. If I'm on a long train journey, I have to hook them around my bag strap, but this isn't practical as they tend to slip and fall to the floor."

You can purchase the Sony WH-CH520 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones here. To conclude, Nisha said: "Overall, I really enjoy using these headphones. For the £34.99 price point, the battery life lasts days and the sound quality is really good - I have two Bose SoundLink Revolve Plus Bluetooth Speakers and the sound quality of these headphones is just as good despite costing hundreds of pounds less."

Amazon customers have also raved about these headphones, with an overall rating of 4.6 stars and over 21,000 reviews. One satisfied customer praised their durability, ease of connection, and sound quality, saying: "Good battery life, durable, easy to connect, lightweight, good sound quality for price point."

However, one customer reported a disappointing experience, stating that the ear cushioning came loose after only two weeks of use. They explained: "I only had these headphones for two weeks and had been enjoying using them. However one day I went to use them and noticed that one earbud had popped out of the socket and can't be reattached! I was using them very normally and hadn't dropped or banged them at all. Really disappointed in the quality."

If you're looking for alternative options, you can consider the APPLE AirPods 4 from Currys for £179, which feature active noise cancellation and a redesigned shape for added comfort. Alternatively, the Jlab JBuds Lux ANC Over-Ear Wireless Headphones are available from Argos for £79.99, offering Smart Active Noise Cancelling and customizable sound via the JLab App.
