The Apple Airpods Pro 2 are at the lowest price I've ever seen this Prime Day

Prime Day coming through.

Amazon practically read my mind this morning, when they discounted the Apple Airpods Pro 2 (with MagSafe Case, no less) to £179 for Amazon Prime Day 2024 (otherwise known as Amazon Big Deals Day). The lowest price I've ever seen, in my entire time as a shopping writer.

I've had my OG Apple AirPods (3rd Generation) for over two years now, and I've been poised and waiting on a genuinely good Airpods deal to finally upgrade. It's high time for me to invest in a set of noise-cancelling earphones that also feature conversation awareness, so I can block out the sounds of the underground on my commute while still being aware of my surroundings when I need to be.

The October Amazon Prime Day kickstarted at midnight – and while perusing the plethora of Prime Day beauty deals that are live on site, I spotted that Apple's Airpods Pro Second Generation, the brand's bestselling earbuds which were first released at the end of 2022, have fallen in price to £179. The only time they've even come close to being this affordable was last Amazon Prime Day (2023), when they were reduced to £209. Prior to that, it was Black Friday 2022, when they were reduced to £230 (back when their recommended retail price was much higher).

The Apple AirPods Pro have loads of epic features worth shouting about, most of which you're probably already aware of. In comparison to the AirPods Pro first generation which were released back in 2021, they have improved audio quality, a better battery life and improved noise-cancelling performance.

On that note: the noise-cancelling abilities of these things are so impressive, you won't be able to hear a single sound of the stampede of passionate shoppers rushing to the Amazon site ahead of midnight on October 9th. Or the buzz of your office. Or the whiz of the coffee machine in the local cafe you're working remotely in.

This is helped by the silicone buds, which do a good job of blocking any noise from entering your ears around the plugs, but also the fact that the new chip is faster and can run more advanced algorithms than its predecessors. Apple claims the new headphones can deduct twice the noise the previous model was able to.

Another of the most notable changes comes in the design of the charging case. Unlike the previous model, you can attach a lanyard to the side of your AirPods Pro 2 charging case, which makes them easier to carry around. Plus, there's a speaker on the underside to help you locate your (much less frequently lost) case with the Find My iPhone app.

As for the similarities between the Pro 2 and previous AirPods models? Setup remains just as easy (all you need to do is open the case when you're close to your iPhone or iPad, and a picture of them appears on the screen), and you can still make calls when you're wearing them.

All in all, they're a solid buy with amazing sound quality, and more worth it than ever when they're reduced to their lowest ever price.
