Norwich City boss makes 'strong' Derby County comments amid response to Canaries fan Paul Warne

Latest Derby County news from DerbyshireLive brings you what the Canaries chief has said about the Rams in his press conference today

Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup showed his sense of humour after learning that Derby County head coach Paul Warne is a fan of the Canaries.

The two clubs go head to head at Pride Park tomorrow in the lunchtime kick-off with the Rams aiming to maintain their impressive home record. Warne's side have a 100 per cent record on their own turf in the Championship and are yet to concede a goal in wins over Middlesbrough, Bristol City and Cardiff.

But that will be put to the test again tomorrow by a Norwich side who come into the game off a 4-1 thumping of Watford last weekend. And the visit of the Canaries carries extra significance for Warne who is a self-proclaimed Norwich fan. After learning he was a Canaries supporter, Thorup joked in his press conference today: "Let’s see how big a fan he is tomorrow!

"We have to make sure we go and change their home record. It’s a strong team, and if we are just a little bit slow it can cause us some trouble. They are good at counter-attacks and set-pieces.”

Speaking about facing Norwich, Warne said: "I played against Norwich as a player many times and I have managed against them many times. It probably gets more excitement from family. Most of my friends are Norwich fans, my uncles are too and my cousins were season ticket holders. I wasn't as my dad played non-league football, so I used to go and watch him play every weekend and kick in the nets at half-time!

"I got to go to the odd Norwich game, which I loved. I went to the cinema to watch Escape to Victory and it was the best birthday I've ever had! All of my family and my best friend live in Norwich, so it has a lot of impetus for me when I see the fixtures come out."
