Sir Jim Ratcliffe is faced with the challenging task of persuading Thomas Tuchel to overlook his primary concern about accepting the Manchester United position if he targets the German to succeed Erik ten Hag.

Tuchel was a top contender to take over from Ten Hag in the summer after his departure from Bayern Munich. However, United chose to stick with the Dutchman and offered him a new contract, a decision that now seems misguided.

Ten Hag's team has lost three out of their first seven Premier League matches, plummeting to 12th place in the league table. The disheartening loss to Tottenham on Sunday has left his tenure hanging by a thread.

As doubts about his future increase, speculation about his successor will intensify. Tuchel is expected to be strongly linked with the role, as the German is currently unemployed following his departure from Bayern.

He had previously engaged in discussions with United's dominant co-owner Ratcliffe during the summer. However, he withdrew himself from consideration before United decided to retain Ten Hag, reports the Mirror.

Bild reports that Tuchel chose to withdraw from the talks due to the new structure Ratcliffe has implemented at Old Trafford. Omar Berrada has been appointed as the chief executive, Dan Ashworth has joined as the sporting director, and Jason Wilcox has taken up the role of technical director.

Tuchel, however, has openly expressed his concerns about operating under such a structure. It's been suggested that Tuchel's evaluation of the United squad differed from that of the club's executives, with the German not particularly impressed by the individuals Ratcliffe had appointed to oversee the technical aspects.

United might consider reigniting their interest in Tuchel if they decide to part ways with Ten Hag. However, the Dutchman is prepared to put up a fight and maintains that he is the right person to guide the Red Devils.

"I think we all made, in togetherness, this decision to stay together, as an ownership, as a leadership group, in the summer. And also, we made the decision from a clear review, what we have to improve as an organisation and how also we want to construct a squad," he said.

"And they are all decision-making in togetherness, but also we knew it would take some time because of how the window went, some players late in, like Ugarte, we have to integrate him now."

"Also, we had to make some improvement in organisation, we still have to deal with some injuries, also from impact players, and I think we will get better there. We need some time. We are all on one page, together, the ownership, the leadership group, the staff and players group."

"There's always a new game, there will be a new day, and it's also obvious. You have to learn as a team. You can't make such mistakes, so definitely, we have to address this. But we will bounce back."
