Former Derby County boss Wayne Rooney has been banned from the touchline for one game and fined £5,500 after he was sent off in Plymouth's win over Blackburn Rovers.

Rooney was dismissed in the 87th minute of the Championship clash after Argyle felt there was a foul on Ryan Hardie in the build-up to a Rovers equaliser.

Plymouth went on to win the game 2-1, but there have been repercussions for ex-Rams boss Rooney who will now be absent from the touchline.

The FA said in a statement: "Wayne Rooney has been given a one-match touchline ban and £5,500 fine for misconduct at Plymouth Argyle’s EFL Championship match against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday October 5. It was alleged that the manager's conduct around the 87th minute was improper and/or he used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official, which led to his dismissal.

"It was further alleged that following his dismissal his conduct was improper and/or violent. It was also alleged that by returning to the field of play after being dismissed his behaviour was improper.

"Wayne Rooney admitted to this charge and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed his sanctions following a hearing. Its written reasons for them will be published in due course."
