Paul Warne's face said it all as he issues Derby County response after Coventry City win

by · Derbyshire Live

Paul Warne hailed Derby County's resilience after they secured their first away win of the Championship season at Coventry City.

Two goals from Jerry Yates helped secure a 2-1 win at the CBS Arena where Tatushiro Sakamoto set up a tense finish. But Derby held on to secure all three points much to the delight of the jubilant travelling support of more than 3,000 fans.

And speaking after the game, happy Derby head coach Warne said: "I am pretty pleased and you are always are after you win a game," he said. "But I try not to go too much by scoreline just by performance. Prior to them scoring I felt reasonably comfortable. It might not have looked it because I was shouting at the lads all the time. But I felt we defended crosses well which is one of their super strengths.

"The keeper helped us out and we defended set-pieces really well. Coventry are really innovative with their set-pieces and we have done a lot of work with the lads on that. We were quite good at neutralising them, and when they scored in the 75th minute, sickly, I quite enjoyed the anarchy of it all.

"It's how football should be - it's getting a bit stale which is just my opinion. But we counter-attacked well, and we had good pockets, but we could have been better on the tidy-up pass now and again. In the last five minutes you can kick it in the car park for all I care, I am not bothered about that. But in parts in the first half, I thought we were out if we had that one little pass.

"But I was really pleased with the lads although Callum Elder picked up a groin injury and Eiran Cashin picked up a fifth booking."
