Atlus Sponsors Conveniently Named F1 Racer for Metaphor: ReFantazio Ad
Blink and you'll miss it
by Khayl Adam · Push SquareThinking outside the box, Atlus will sponsor the Haas racing team, with two of the cars competing at this week's F1 Singapore Grand Prix bearing the faces of characters from the impending Metaphor: ReFantazio, the next epic JRPG from the team behind Persona.
Spotted by Eurogamer, while it might seem like a strange pairing, a connection exists to explain the occurrence. One of Metahphor's party members is the red-haired elven knight Hulkenberg, and Nico Hülkenberg is a driver for the Haas F1 team. Synergy! Fellow Haas member Kevin Magnussen will also get in on the action, with Metaphor's unnamed protagonist adorning the other vehicle. Atlus explains why this collaboration makes sense without mentioning the convenient coincidence we just noted:
"Overcoming fear and anxiety is a central theme in Metaphor: ReFantazio, and being featured on the racecars of Nico Hülkenberg and Kevin Magnussen - drivers known for defying the impossible - perfectly mirrors our game, where players beat the odds in their chase for the crown in the Royal Tournament. Partnering with MoneyGram Haas F1 Team ahead of the Singapore GP is a natural fit, as the high-stakes nature of Formula 1 aligns seamlessly with the competitive election mechanic in the game, where players gain followers in their own race for victory."

That's....a reach. I think the folks at Atlus are a little too high minded for the marketing game 😂
That's a bit weird. Well regardless I hope the game is decent.

Not a coincidence that they sponsored two of the slowest vehicles on the grid, lest anyone missed the ad!
I'm not too big on F1 that much but it's pretty cool that the red-haired elf in the game has the same name as the driver's last name. I might watch some highlights of it later on but yeah, I was never too big on F1 in general.
Metaphor is the only October game I'm getting so I am excited to play it in less than 3 weeks. Not expecting it to be perfect but I have faith in Atlus since they rarely disappoint.
I like weird and creative marketing. Not sure how big the F1/JRPG overlap is, but is you're both a fan of MoneyGram Haas F1 Team and Atlus games this marketing has your name on it. 😋

I watched the whole race and didn't notice. Should have done the rear wing.

They also sent Sony Santa Monica Writer and YouTube personality Alanah Pearce to the race with her dad as a PR junket to promote it. Which was particularly heart warming as she lives in California and he lives in Australia so they don't see each other often.
Didn’t notice. Boring race. Well done Maclaren though
Characters in Metaphor Refantazio named after/inspired by F1 drivers:
Hulkenberg = Nico Hülkenberg
Gallica = Divina Galica
Strohl = Lance Stroll
Not a coincidence at all
Okay what? Atlus Jrps and F1 are my two mega loves and I did NOT see this coming lmao.
