Matty Cash opens up on 'annoying' injury and sets himself Aston Villa target

Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash is "felling good" after missing six matches in all competitions through injury

Matty Cash is ready to kick-start his season after overcoming a hamstring injury as Aston Villa look to return to winning ways in the Premier League against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Villa head into the match on the back of successive league draws against Ipswich Town and Manchester United, but did beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in the Champions League in the middle of those two stalemates. They head to the capital knowing a victory would put them in good stead to attack the next six games in all competitions before the November international break.

"We go to Fulham wanting to win," Cash said via the club website. "Fulham is a tough place to go, so respect to them. Every game we go into, we want to win.

"It is almost like we are expected to win these days, which obviously puts a bit more pressure on us, but when you are finishing in the top four, those are the demands you set.

"That starts from the manager with the demands he sets for us. The platform he gives us to go out and perform is amazing. We go there full of confidence at the minute. We’ll do everything we can to prepare to win and go and enjoy it."

Cash has been working hard in the break to get back up to full fitness having missed most of the season so far due to a hamstring injury. He suffered the problem in the first half of Villa's home match with Arsenal in August, but returned to the starting XI to face United two weeks ago.

"It is obviously great to be back," the right-back added. "Annoying to have pulled my hamstring early on [in the season], but I’m feeling good now.

"I only trained a few days before the Man Utd game as well, so it was good to play, good to be back out there and fingers crossed I can keep some form now and keep going.

"For me personally, just to be out playing football again is what I enjoy and what I want to do. And with the boys continuing the good form, it’s always good to go back in when everyone is full of confidence."
