Birmingham City’s promotion rivals braced for significant blow
by Alex Dicken, https://www.facebook.com/alexdickenjournalist/?fref=ts · Birmingham LiveBirmingham City’s rivals at the top of League One, Wycombe Wanderers, could be about to lose their manager.
Wycombe boss Matt Bloomfield has reportedly been short-listed for the vacancy at Championship side Coventry City after the sacking of Mark Robins on Thursday. The Guardian reports Bloomfield, 40, is one the leading contenders to succeed Robins at the Ricoh Arena.
Bloomfield is attracting attention after guiding Wycombe to the top of the League One table with an 11-match unbeaten run. The Chairboys haven’t lost in the league since they were defeated 3-2 by Blues at Adams Park in August.

A 5-0 win over Stockport County in midweek saw them leapfrog Blues in the table to take top spot. Chris Davies’ Blues remain level on points with Wycombe and have a game-in-hand.
Wycombe will be desperate to keep Bloomfield away from Coventry’s clutches. Bloomfield spent the entirety of his playing career with Wycombe before retiring in 2022. After a brief spell managing Colchester United, Bloomfield returned to Adams Park to succeed Gareth Ainsworth in 2023.
Bloomfield is the odds-on favourite for the Coventry job but a number of ex-Blues bosses, including current England interim Lee Carsley and Gary Rowett, also feature in the betting.
