Manchester United are sweating on Kobbie Mainoo's fitness ahead of the Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Sunday (2pm).

The midfielder is still dealing with a knock sustained in their last league match against Tottenham. The 19-year-old midfielder trained on the eve of United's match against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday and travelled to Portugal but did not make the bench.

United are also hopeful Mason Mount will be able to recover in time to feature against Villa, but Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Leny Yoro all remain sidelined and will not play a part at Villa Park.

Giving an injury update after the draw with Porto, ten Hag said: " We had three players with issues going into this (Porto) game. Harry Maguire, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

"Harry Maguire and Alejandro made the squad and they were capable to play some minutes. Kobbie Mainoo didn’t make it. It was too big risk. We have to wait and see if he can play on Sunday, if he’s fit enough to start or be on the bench."

Garnacho came off the bench at the break in place of Marcus Rashford, who had opened the scoring against the Portuguese side. Maguire then salvaged a point by heading in the equaliser in the final minutes of the match.

Villa come into the game on the back of a historic 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night. After being held to a 2-2 draw by Ipswich Town last weekend, Unai Emery's side are hoping to return to winning ways in the league on Sunday.
