Aston Villa face 'further payment' as star continues to shine bright

by · Birmingham Live

Aston Villa will have to make a further payment to Middlesbrough for Morgan Rogers, according to a report on Teesside.

News broke on Monday that the in-form youngster had been added to Lee Carsley’s England squad after it was decimated by the withdrawal of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Levi Colwill, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Cole Palmer, Aaron Ramsdale, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, who are all managing knocks.

As a result Jarrod Bowen, defenders Jarrad Branthwaite and Tino Livramento plus goalkeeper James Trafford have also been added to Carsley's squad, alongside Rogers who is making the step up to senior level for the first time.

It’s not before time either with Unai Emery critical of his previous call-ups to the Under-21s squad, coming on the back of the 22-year-old’s excellent start to the Premier League campaign.

Indeed his progress since he joined from Boro in February has been remarkable, almost as remarkable as the fact Villa reportedly paid just £8million for him. It was reported at the time the fee could rise to £15m if certain clauses were triggered – and now the Nortern Echo claim one has been. They say full England honours will add ‘a further payment’ for the attacker.

England are second in their UEFA Nations League league B group with two matches to go. They face group-leaders Greece - who they trail by three points - in Athens on Thursday then return to Wembley to play Republic of Ireland, so Villa fans will be watching eagerly to see whether their No.27 earns his first cap.
