Aston Villa without two players for Club Brugge clash as Unai Emery delivers injury update

by · Birmingham Live

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has confirmed Matty Cash will miss the Champions League clash against Club Brugge on Wednesday night.

The right-back was forced off in the 60th minute of Villa's Premier League clash against Tottenham. Emery's side were drawing 1-1 at that point, but conceded three more goals to lose 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Cash is yet to make his Champions League debut after missing the first two matches against BSC Young Boys and Bayern Munich through a hamstring injury. He then stayed on the substitutes bench for the home match against Bologna two weeks ago.

Villa are also without Ross Barkley at the moment after he picked up a small injury before the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace last week. The midfielder will also miss the trip to Anfield on Saturday, but is expected to return to action after the November international break.

"They aren’t with us Matty Cash and Ross Barkley, they both have small injuries," Emery confirmed in his pre-match press conference.

Villa face Brugge looking to retain their perfect start in the Champions League after beating BSC Young Boys, Bayern and Bologna. They currently top the league phase table, while second-placed Liverpool are the only other side who have won all of their games in the competition.

Opponents Brugge have won one and lost two of their opening three matches after defeating Strum Graz between defeats to Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan. They will be without midfielder Raphael Onyedika, who is suspended after receiving a red card at the San Siro in matchweek three.
