Aston Villa open Morgan Rogers talks after rapid progress under Unai Emery

Aston Villa have reportedly opened talks with Morgan Rogers over a new contract.

The 22-year-old signed a long-term contract when he joined Villa back in January, but the club now want to reward him for his excellent progress under Unai Emery.

The Athletic claim that Villa want to bring Rogers' salary in line with teammates to reflect his role in the team. He has started all nine of the club's Premier League matches this season and each of the three Champions League games too.

"He is a talented player," Emery said of Rogers last month. "The commitment he has with Aston Villa is fascinating because he’s a local boy from Birmingham.

"We are really trying to push him as much as we can. He has the talent and that’s the most important thing."

Villa rewarded Jhon Duran with a new contract last month after his electric start to the new season as he has scored eight goals in 14 appearances across all competitions.

The Colombia international signed a new deal which will keep him at the club until 2030 and included a bumper pay rise after being one of the lower earners in the first-team since joining from Chicago Fire for an initial £14.75m fee plus add-ons.
