Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is under a lot of pressure after a disappointing start to the season and it would not be a surprise if the Dutch manager is shown the door soon.

Manchester United have backed him with substantial funds in the transfer market and they have brought in a number of quality players in recent seasons. However, Ten Hag has not been able to deliver the results on the pitch. The Dutch manager is clearly on thin ice and Manchester United are reportedly looking at potential alternatives.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United are interested in the former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri. The 57-year-old is a proven manager at the highest level and he has won multiple titles during his time in Serie A. The Italian manager is currently without a job since leaving Juventus in May.

He is not the only candidate on the Manchester United shortlist and they are keeping tabs on the former England manager, Gareth Southgate as well.

Furthermore, former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is also one of the frontrunners to land the Manchester United job. It will be interesting to see who they end up with.

Erik ten Hag needs to move on

It is evident that Ten Hag is struggling at Old Trafford and a change is needed. Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they cannot afford to put in mediocre performances season after season. They will be expected to challenge for major trophies and match up to the European elite.

Meanwhile, the report from Football Insider claims that Manchester United plan to hold talks with Allegri regarding a potential move and it remains to be seen whether they can convince the Italian manager to take over. He has won six league titles in Italy and he knows what it takes to manage a big club like Manchester United. He is reportedly a preferred option for club legend Sir Alex Ferguson as well.
