Locals in the NFL: Jordan Love shrugs off pick 6 to rally Packers by Rams

AROUND THE SHIELD — In his second game back from a knee injury, Green Bay Packers starter Jordan Love did something rare, or something he's never done before.
Facing a third-and-12 from his own 8-yard line, with a hair of two minutes remaining in the first half of a 7-7 tie, Love rolled outside of the pocket and found himself in his own end zone.
Determined to avoid a safety on a free blitz, Love tossed the ball forward — and right into the waiting arms of Rams rookie Jaylen McCollough, who returned the pick 3 yards for a touchdown.
"That's never fun," Packers coach Matt LaFleur said after the game.
Love said he was "just trying to get rid of the ball" when he saw the blitz incoming.
"I was falling, and I didn't really have balance," he added. "I was just trying to get it out of bounds, but it's tough.
"Honestly, I should've just thrown it to the ground. Don't put any air on that ball … and not give any possibility for a bad play to happen."
But Love didn't let that moment define him. Not one bit.
The former Utah State star completed 15-of-26 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns, including nine consecutive completions after the pick six and a 66-yard strike to Tucker Kraft for his first of two on the day, to rally Green Bay to a 24-19 win Sunday over Los Angeles.
"It's just understanding how critical each possession is," said Love, who had his first career game with two completions of 50 yards or more. "It just came to a lack of execution early on, and leading up to that pick.
"We know what type of team we are, and what we have to do to win games: execute at a high level. … Obviously, the pick was a bad decision, but it's all about how you respond and bounce back."
