I think the ideal time for Federico Chiesa has come - I like what I've seen

The West Ham United game in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday seems like the ideal time for Federico Chiesa's first Liverpool start. The Italy international was a livewire in his short cameo off the bench in Saturday's 3-0 win over Bournemouth but it was only a fleeting glimpse really.

What I have seen so far from him, he looks like a real workaholic and he doesn't stop. Defenders don't get a minute with him around and he looks like someone who is genuinely over the moon to be at Liverpool having moved from Juventus last month.

We will see in time how much of a shrewd purchase it is but it feels like a no-brainer at £12m for someone with that sort of profile. We've only really seen clips of him in training other than the substitute appearance on Saturday so there is limited scope to form an opinion but if he can stay away from injuries then let's hope the Reds have another really good option in the attack.

Arne Slot will of course weigh it up but he needs games now Chiesa having not really played much since the Euros with Italy.

Down the other end of the pitch you simply have to give Caoimhin Kelleher loads of credit after a clean sheet against Bournemouth. The goalkeeper sounded as though he thought he was getting his move during the international break and you could understand any frustration that was there but he's never been the type to throw the toys out the pram.

I think Kelleher can see the predicament and we all can because he is up against such a great goalkeeper in Alisson Becker but from a purely selfish point of view, I don't want to see Caoimhin go anywhere because there is no better No.2 in the business, surely?

He made some excellent saves at the weekend to shut out Bournemouth and he ticks all the boxes you'd want generally from a goalkeeper, so you can't knock him. It is so reassuring to know he can step in whenever Alisson is injured.
