Bristol City boss Liam Manning is stepping away from his duties at Ashton Gate following the heartbreaking loss of his newborn son, who tragically passed away recently.

The club released a statement expressing their deep sadness at the passing of baby Theo John Manning, and the thoughts of everyone at Ashton Gate and the wider football community are with the Manning family during this difficult time.

The statement read: "Everyone at Bristol City Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing of Liam's recently born son Theo John Manning.

"We know that Bristol City's supporters and the wider football family will share the condolences and deepest sympathy with Liam, his wife Fran and his son Isaac during this difficult period. Liam will take a period of absence and all football duties will be carried out by Chris Hogg. We ask that the privacy of Liam and his family is respected during this time.

The first team, in Manning's absence, will travel to Middlesbrough for an away match on Saturday, October 19, followed by an away game against Stoke City next Tuesday, before hosting Leeds United the following Saturday, reports Bristol Live.

Bristol City currently sit 16th in the EFL Championship but are enjoying a 10-game unbeaten run at home in the league.
