I managed against Roy Keane – he’s not as tough as he makes out, it’s bravado

Harry Redknapp has cheekily suggested he could outbox former Sunderland manager Roy Keane.

The ex-England manager dismissed the former Manchester United midfielder's tough image as mere "bravado" during an appearance on the Soccer PM YouTube channel.

Keane, renowned for his no-nonsense approach and candid commentary both on the field and as a pundit, accumulated 13 red cards in his career, cementing a fearsome reputation.

He also managed Sunderland at the same time that Redknapp was guiding Portsmouth in the Premier League, coming up against each other in the dugout.

With Keane known as a fearsome player and Redknapp hailed as a no-nonsense manager, it was a tale of two big figures coming up against each other - but the latter believes that he'd get the better of the Irishman in the ring.

Redknapp confidently said: "I don't think Roy Keane's as tough as he makes out. It's all bravado. I wouldn't mind fighting Roy Keane, actually."

The ex-Tottenham boss, who managed in the top-flight during Keane's peak years at United, often found his son Jamie Redknapp - now a fellow pundit with Keane on Sky Sports - on the opposite side of Keane's challenges.

Redknapp snr. didn't stop at Keane, also naming other footballers he reckoned he could beat in the ring, though he noted Michael Owen might be at a disadvantage due to height differences.

He also mentioned Gareth Southgate, Shaun Wright-Phillips, and Paul Scholes as potential opponents he could beat, but also shared his affection for Scholes, adding: "I love him, what a footballer."

The former Brentford player believed he would struggle against the likes of Peter Crouch, Sol Campbell, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and Rio Ferdinand. However, when Dennis Wise was mentioned, Redknapp joked: "You'd have to kill him to beat him!"
