Carabao Cup quarter-final draw in full as Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal learn opponents

Manchester United are set to go head-to-head with Tottenham in a standout fixture of the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

United, who were victorious on Wednesday night, scoring five against Leicester City, have secured their place in the final eight under the guidance of interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy. However, by the time the next round commences, Ruben Amorim may have taken over the reins.

In other matches, reigning champions Liverpool will journey to Southampton, while Arsenal will welcome Crystal Palace for a London derby. Newcastle, after their triumph over Chelsea, will host Brentford at home.

The quarter-final clashes are scheduled for mid-December, followed by the two-legged semi-finals in the new year. The grand finale is slated for March 16 at Wembley.

Arsenal emerged victorious over Preston North End on Wednesday night, ensuring that only Premier League teams remain in the competition. Gabriel Jesus, Ethan Nwaneri and Kai Havertz scored at Deepdale, leading to Preston joining Championship sides Stoke and Sheffield Wednesday in exiting the competition, reports the Mirror.

Liverpool kicked off Wednesday's action with a narrow 3-2 victory at Brighton, keeping their hopes of retaining the trophy alive. Last year's runners-up Chelsea, however, have been eliminated, with Newcastle's early goals securing their win at St James' Park.

In Wednesday's late fixture, a significantly changed Manchester City squad couldn't hold their ground against Tottenham. Spurs secured a two-goal advantage thanks to Timo Werner and Pape Matar Sarr, with Matheus Nunes' goal proving insufficient to sustain the 2021 champions' hopes for a ninth title in the tournament.

After his side's win, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed his satisfaction, telling BBC Radio 5 Live: "I want a home draw because this place is an amazing venue to play in and that was shown again tonight," and "Sold out, great atmosphere, good performance and I hope everyone feels a bit better about themselves now."

Meanwhile, United's interim boss Van Nistelrooy is looking forward to potentially being part of the action in the quarter-finals. His future with the coaching staff under Ruben Amorim is uncertain, but he has expressed a keenness to remain with the club.

"I came here as an assistant to help the club," van Nistelrooy remarked. "Now, in this role, I'm helping as long as needed. In the future, in any capacity, I'm here to help the club further to build towards the future that's what I'm here for."
