Wrexham AFC’s takeover by Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has been a big success story over the last few years.

The Red Dragons have gained back-to-back promotions under Phil Parkinson and currently sit third in League One.

Meanwhile, the two actors have also invested into the local community after recently acquiring a majority stake in the Wrexham Lager brewery.

It’s therefore no surprise that other celebrities are now looking to try and replicate their journey, including Snoop Dogg, who revealed he wants to invest in Scottish Premiership side Celtic after being inspired by their exploits at Wrexham.

Gambling.com has created betting odds on which celebrities could be next to follow in their footsteps.

According to them, US rapper A$AP Rocky, who is currently dating Rihanna, is the clear favourite to join the list of celebrity football club owners.

It follows reports that he is part of an investment group interested in purchasing an 80% stake in League Two side Tranmere Rovers.

Many other US celebrities have already dipped their toe in the football investment game in the MLS and Mexico’s Liga MX.

Natalie Portman (3/1) owns the women’s football team Angel City FC, along with celebrity friends America Ferrera, Mia Hamm, Sophia Bush, Abby Wambach and Eva Longoria.

It’s been claimed their knowledge of the sport, coupled with their financial resources, could see this group crossing the pond for a similar investment opportunity.

Mark Wahlberg, Robbie Williams and Reynold's Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman also have close ties to investing in sport, or have a passion for the game.

Former Take That member Williams (4/1) has been linked to purchasing his boyhood club Port Vale on several occasions.

Meanwhile, Jackman (6/1) has been spotted alongside Reynolds at Wrexham games and is an avid Norwich City fan.

Wahlberg (10/1) has invested in a Caribbean cricket team and could potentially be next if he decides to diversify his portfolio with an English football club.

Other US celebrity football investors include Matthew McConaughey (8/1) at Austin FC, Drew Carey (12/1) at Seattle Sounders FC and Kate Upton (14/1) at Club Necaxa.

Gambling.com has also explored which clubs in the English football pyramid would be most attractive to celebrity investors.

They considered factors such as the size of their fanbase and stadium, as well as their location and the extent of their history.

Tranmere are the odds-on favourites at 1/3 in the market after the reports linking them with A$AP Rocky.

However, there are other clubs that are considered attractive to celebrities looking to invest such as Reading (2/1), Charlton Athletic (3/1) and Bradford City (4/1).

All three clubs have played in the Premier League, have a large fan base and are located in or close to cities.

Other candidates include Milton Keynes Dons (6/1), Port Vale (8/1), Wigan Athletic (10/1), Oldham Athletic (12/1), Notts County (14/1), Rochdale (16/1) and Bolton Wanderers (20/1).

With Reynolds and McElhenney demonstrating what can be achieved in a relatively short period of time at an EFL club that had fallen on hard times, it’s potentially only a matter of time before others follow.
