Swansea City and Wales hit by devastating fresh injury blow as star out for months

by · Wales Online

Swansea City midfielder Ollie Cooper is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a stress fracture in his foot, WalesOnline understands.

Early indications suggest the midfielder is likely to be out for around three months, dealing a devastating blow to boss Luke Williams as he attempts to guide the Swans through what's been a difficult recent run of form.

The Swans head to Oxford United on Saturday on the back of a winless run of six league games, which has also coincided with the club's worst goal drought since 1996.

This latest development will subsequently be the cause of grave concern for Williams, who has already had to contend with a lengthy injury to winger Eom Jisung in recent weeks, while Jay Fulton is also understood to have come down with a calf problem this week.

After a difficult campaign last season, Cooper had shown signs of returning to his best under Williams this term. Indeed, he's become a central part of his plans this season, starting nine of Swansea's 12 Championship games.

His return to form had also seen him win a return to the Wales set-up under Craig Bellamy, who will similarly view Cooper's injury as a substantial setback as he prepares for the upcoming UEFA Nations League double-header with Turkey and Iceland later this month.

Bellamy handed Cooper his first start in a Wales shirt back in September, with the 24-year-old playing just over an hour of the 2-1 win over Montenegro. He would later go on to play the full 90 minutes of the 2-2 draw with Iceland in Reykjavik.

However, he won't be a part of Bellamy's latest squad, which is due to be announced on Tuesday.
