Texas HS football team slammed after players spank opponents with belts after 77-0 win

· New York Post

A Texas high school football team is in hot water for their postgame punishment of their opponents in the handshake line — whipping them with belts as part of a viral TikTok movement.

While shaking hands after beating Cleveland High School 77-0 on Sept. 27, Willis High School in the Houston area took things too far after the game.

The players could be seen in a social media video with belts in the other hand, attempting to slap their opponents in the butts.

The idea came from the viral BTA challenge, which stands for “belt to ass.”

The video shows one Cleveland player jumping out of the way to avoid getting it with the belt.

After the handshake line ends, the video shows players aggressively whipping the belts in front of them in celebration.

“I just don’t get it. I don’t and I’d be very pissed off if I’m scrolling on my phone, and I see my son getting hit with the belt,” Mary Almaguer, a mother of a student at Cleveland, told KHOU 11.

The Willis Independent School district suspended several players, who could face additional disciplinary action, after seeing the video of the incident — which was also condemned by parents

‘We are deeply disappointed by the unsportsmanlike conduct displayed by some of our football players following last week’s game against Cleveland,’ the Willis Independent School District said in a statement.

“’This behavior does not reflect the values of our district, and we are committed to ensuring it does not happen again. We have been in communication with the UL (University Interscholastic League) and have submitted our proposed disciplinary actions for review.

“While we await their decision on any additional sanctions, the athletes involved have already faced consequences. They will be suspended for the first half of tomorrow’s game, required to complete community service, and have undergone disciplinary measures during football practice.

“’We do not condone this behavior, and we are actively taking steps to prevent such incidents in the future. We want to express our deepest regrets to the athletes, coaches, parents, and community of Cleveland ISD.”

The Cleveland Independent School District in a statement called Willis’ actions “inappropriate” and has filed official complaints.

“That’s just shady and there’s no point in doing that. It’s just very childish for them to do that,” Melanie Gonzalez, the mother of a Clevland HS, told KHOU 1.

Some parents believe the first-half suspension for the Willis players doesn’t go far enough.

“I think more than just half of a game suspension, maybe the rest of the season, some counseling,” Almaguer said.
