Para Sukma: Richard Bada wins S’wak’s first gold for discus, teammates claim silver and bronze

KUCHING (September 23): Richard Bada earned Sarawak’s first gold medal at the 21st Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) in the men’s discus throw F41 (short stature) category.

Teammates Teckman Mary and Abdullah Syawal Majarol claimed Sarawak’s first silver and bronze medals in the games respectively.

Richard, 31, from Kampung Segenam, Serian, secured the gold with a throw of 25.53 metres, breaking his personal record.

“I feel happy and proud to have won my first-ever gold medal. With this achievement, I can bring pride to my family and my village,” Richard told reporters at Sarawak Stadium today.

He will also be competing in the javelin throw and shot put.

Teckman and Abdullah Syawal were also happy with their achievements in the event.

“Now, we will shift our focus to performing well and bringing pride to Sarawak,” said Abdullah Syawal.

Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah presented the medals accompanied by her deputy Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam.

Also present was Para Sukma deputy chef de mission and Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang.
