KUCHING (Sept 23): Brothers 12-year-old Ryoga Kho and 10-year-old Yoshi Kho from SJKC Stampin led Sarawak’s charge at the MSSM Tennis Championships held in Kuala Lumpur from Sept 13-20. The pair captured the gold medal in the Boys U12 doubles after topping Group A in the round-robin stage.

However, they had to battle a nail-biting match against Penang’s Caden Kan JiaZhi and Ong Theng Kuan before prevailing 6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 10-5 in a dramatic semi-final. The gold was secured only after a thrilling 6-4, 6-4 victory over the Selangor twins of Anas Irfan Osman and Anas Zafran Osman.

In the Girls U18 doubles, Imaan Belle Mohd Ishan from SMK St Columba, Miri combined with Nathanielle Ann Lee Wan Xuan of St Joseph International School, Kuching, to add a silver medal to Sarawak’s tally. Another silver was obtained through Imaan Belle and Nathanielle Ann Lee in the Girls U15 doubles.

The Sarawak squad was led by Melissa Ogang who attributed their success to role played by the teachers and coach.

“We couldn’t have done it without the encouragement and support of all the teachers in our team and the dedication of our coach,” said the Kno brothers.
