Persatuan Tenis Bumiputera Sarawak lifts Inter-Club tennis title for 7th time

KUCHING (Oct 3): Persatuan Tenis Bumiputera Sarawak (PTBS) made a successful defence of its crown at the 8th Kuching-Samarahan Inter-Club Tennis Tournament title recently.

Held at the Tun Abdul Razak Teacher Education Institute in Kota Samarahan, the tournament saw PTBS edge Upland Tennis Club 2-1 in the final to emerge champion for a record seventh time.

Norhairi Khaidir-Joel Wilton Empirang gave PTBS the first point when they outplayed Arivagara Pavithran-Alexander Loi  8-1 in the open doubles.

Shuari Zawawi-Elmy Muliani followed up with a 8-3 win over Then Yeh Heng-Jenny Yous in the mixed doubles.

However, Zainoren Alek-Wahi Sahmad fell 5-8 to Francis Foo Hwa Min-Au Fuk Hong in the veteran’s doubles.

Earlier in the semifinals, PTBS edged KDLTA 2-1 while Upland Rennis Club thumped TF Rinduk Club 3-0.

KDLTA finished third in the tournament after beating TF Rinduk 3-0.

Samarahan Division Lawn Tennis Association president Yunus Padzil and Tun Abdul Razak Teacher Education Institute Health Physical Education Department assistant head Quek Eeu Len gave away the prizes.

The event was organised by the Samarahan Division Lawn Tennis Association.

Other participating teams were Kelab Golf Sarawak and The Sarawak Club.
