The PGMOL have suspended referee David Coote after a video of him appeared online making defamatory comments about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) launched an investigation into the video that has been circulating on the internet that appears to show Coote slating Klopp and Liverpool. Now, while the investigation still needs to be completed to its full extent, the body, that is responsible for refereeing in English football, have decided to suspend Coote.

"David Coote has been suspended with immediate affect pending a full investigation," the statement read. "PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete."

According to the Mirror, the FA have now also opened their own separate investigation into the incident.

A video appeared on social media website X on Monday afternoon where Coote was being filmed talking about Klopp and Liverpool in a defamatory manner, including several foul-mouthed comments. When asked about his thoughts on Klopp, Coote said: "C***, absolute c***.

"Aside from having a right pop at me when I was reffing against Burnley in lockdown, he accused me of lying and then just had a right f***ing pop at me. I’ve got no interest in speaking to somebody as f***ing arrogant. I do my best not to speak to him…"

Then, in a separate video, Coote said: "Just to be clear, that last video can't go anywhere, seriously."

Klopp left Liverpool after nine years with the club in the summer and has since been replaced by Arne Slot.

Coote was the referee for Liverpool's win against Aston Villa on Saturday evening but has since been suspended. That match at Anfield was Coote's sixth in the Premier League this season.
